Louisville African Latin Drum Circle Magic

What’s in a name?

Louisville, because this is the multicultural city that made this possible.

African, because Africa is the birth place of drumming. African beats are embedded in all Homo sapiens, and are present deep within our inner core.

Latin, because when African drum patterns reached Latin America, the fundamental pace accelerated, creating a new style of drumming. We blend African and Latin rhythms, but our multicultural group welcomes drumming styles from across the world!

Drum, because the basic instrument of our group is the same drum that was played by our ancestors more than 50,000 years ago in the African savannas. Drums are considered the oldest human musical instrument.

Circle, because playing in a circle gives a sense of community. We are not playing for an audience; we are playing for every other member of the circle. The goal of the circle is not to have spectators but for everybody to be a participant.

Magic, because once you feel the music and let your imagination flow, magic happens. You transcend time and find yourself in a dream-like state, with only happiness around you. This mystical experience is attainable by coming in contact with the Spirit of the Circle.
