Kenya Police in Haiti Take Down Haiti Gang with US Armoured Vehicles - In a bold and high-stakes operation on the streets of Port-au-Prince, the Kenyan police force in Haiti, together with the Haitian National Police, took a significant step in their mission to reclaim the capital from gang control. On Tuesday, in a carefully coordinated ambush, the joint forces launched an offensive against gangs in the districts of Bel-Air and Solino, which have long been notorious strongholds for criminal activity. The result was a decisive victory, with several gang members reported dead and others fleeing the area.
This marked one of the most successful and impactful operations by the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission since it arrived in Haiti two months ago. For the first time, the forces demonstrated their ability to strike effectively at the heart of the gang problem that has paralyzed Port-au-Prince. The mission was bolstered by new military-grade equipment provided by the United States, including 24 armored mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles and 34 Overhead Gunner Protection Kits, or "turrets," which were installed on the armored vehicles to enhance the operational capabilities of the forces.
