RULES:
The rules are the same as regular Chess, except for these changes. The object of the game is to capture your opponent’s king, there is no check or checkmate. Replace all pieces with white versions, leaving the king space empty. White pieces are neutral and change into the color of the first player piece that is orthogonally or diagonally adjacent to it. This is called loyalty. Each player picks a non-white colored king and places it on their side of the board. Your king is always loyal to your color, and its loyalty spreads to the pieces around it, which spread to the pieces around them, and so one. This is called a string of loyalty.

Whenever a piece moves so that it is no longer adjacent to a string of loyalty, then that piece loses loyalty to you and becomes neutral and is changed back to white. Should your string of loyalty break, then all your pieces no longer touching it; lose their loyalty to you and change back to white.

Neutral white pieces may not be moved by any player and may not be captured. Whenever your string of loyalty reaches a neutral piece, then that neutral piece changes loyalty to you, further extending the string of loyalty to any adjacent neutral pieces. Neutral pieces that change to your color are under your control.

If you move a piece so that it would become neutral, BUT it is now adjacent to an opponent’s string of loyalty, then that piece changes to your opponent’s color instead of neutral. If you move your piece adjacent to an opponent’s string of loyalty, while retaining its loyalty to you, then the piece remains your color. You may capture an opponent’s piece even if it results in your capturing piece changes loyalty. After capturing an opponent’s piece, you must check for loyalty and resolve it if necessary before the game can continue.

Your pawns that lose loyalty upon reaching your far side of the board do not promote until they regain your loyalty. If that pawn gains loyalty to your opponent, they do not promote, as they on their first row. Pawns are always allowed a two-step non-capturing move when on their first or second row, even if they have moved before, if you want. A pawn that makes a two-step move may be captured by your opponent through en passant, UNLESS your pawn loses loyalty, then the en passant capture is not allowed.

Kings are not allowed to castle with a neutral piece. A rook changing loyalty does not disqualify it from castling later in the game, so long as it doesn’t move. The first player to capture their opponent’s king, wins.
