Neend is one of the last films of Noor Jahan, after which she retired from acting. The film was a hit at the box office and was later remade by the director in 1977 as Begum Jaan. BBC Urdu included it in the best selected films of Pakistani cinema. It was screened by Lok Virsa Museum in August 2016, as a part of special feature films screening in the country. The film won 2 Nigar Awards in different categories.

One of the leading lyricists of Urdu and Punjabi films Tanvir Naqvi remembered on his death anniversary on Friday.
He was born on 6th February 1919 in Lahore. His real name was Syed Khursheed Ali and he was a lyricist who had carved out a niche for himself in the cine world from the early 40s right till his death in 1972.

He was much sought after as a songwriter. After partition, Tanvir Naqvi migrated to Pakistan and for over 15 years remained one of the leading lyricist of Urdu and Punjabi films.
His patriotic number sung by NoorJahan during the 1965 war “Rang
Laayega Shaheedon ka Lahoo” became extremely popular as well. He died on November 1, 1972 in Lahore.

Well-known musician and composer Rasheed Attre is being remembered on his death anniversary today (Tuesday).The great composer of the Indo-Pak subcontinent Abdur Rasheed, more commonly known as Rasheed Attre, was born in 1919. His father, Khushi Mohammad, was also highly acclaimed singer-musician in his time.Young Rasheed acquired his initial music lessons from Khan Sahib Ashfaq Husain. Rasheed soon mastered the musical instruments in general and tabla in particular.In the early 1940s, Rasheed decided to consolidate his efforts towards composition and started his music.He composed music for several films, including Laila Mujnu, Rukhsana and Gulshan. He started his Career from Mahishori pictures, Lahore, for whom he composed two songs for the film Pagli. For the first time in 1942, Rasheed independently composed songs for Indira Puri picture production, the Film Mamta. Rasheed exudes an altogether different tune and it was all the more evident in the Naueek Chitar Pat's 1944 Movie, Pana. His compositions struck a chord with music lovers all across Pakistan. The first Pakistani film for which Rasheed lent his music was director Masood Pervez's Beli. He won the prestigious Nigar award three times. In the mid 1940s, Attre became the first music director to compose songs for the Bombay Talkies. He passed away in 1967 at the age of 48. –SAMAA
