Accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the great conductor Bernard Haitink, this was the first time on television: all five concerts had never been broadcast live before.

Although we focus on piano concerts here, several overtures by Beethoven and the complete Symphony No. 8 were also included in the program. Filmed and broadcast live at London's iconic Royal Festival Hall in its former glory, before it was remodeled with a complete internal makeover.
