While in Kunming, I took a day trip to Xishan Scenic Area which is known for its ancient Buddhist history, dating back to the Tang Dynasty. I wanted to find “Longmen” Aka Dragon’s Gate because apparently if you touch the gate you get good luck. I did get good luck, I found a job in Beijing which allowed me to stay in China for longer!

Anyway, to go up the mountain, there is an open air cable car (or chairlift I should say). It’s near the edge of the mountain but it felt very quiet and peaceful and there were beautiful views of Dianchi Lake.

To get to Dragon’s Gate, we walked through the grottoes. These narrow cave tunnels were carved out during the Qing Dynasty and they were steep! The Dragon’s Gate was smaller than I thought it would be!

It was a nice day trip. Suitable for anyone that likes history and exploring.
