The Indian government has recently expanded the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) to include all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of their income or socio-economic status. This move aims to benefit approximately 4.5 crore families, covering around 6 crore senior citizens with ₹5 lakh free health insurance cover on a family basis.

Key Benefits for Senior Citizens:

Health Insurance Coverage: ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary healthcare services.
Cashless Treatment: Beneficiaries can avail cashless treatment at empaneled hospitals across India.
Top-Up Coverage: Senior citizens already covered under AB PM-JAY will receive an additional ₹5 lakh top-up coverage per year, separate from their family's general coverage.
Choice of Schemes: Seniors can choose to stick with their existing public health insurance schemes or switch to AB PM-JAY.
Private Insurance Eligibility: Senior citizens with private health insurance can also benefit from AB PM-JAY.
