Lively, mischievous, and with an unmistakable groove, To Pull Out All the Stops is the fourth movement of Snapshots; freshly re-orchestrated from the original saxophone quartet scoring in a roller-coaster of a production. Written to cover the far reaches of the saxophone quartet’s ability and now “band-ified,” this energetic, high-speed tour de force is packed with solos, extended techniques, meter changes, and so much more. Its constant drive, jazzy interjections, and sheer volume make it at once gleefully fun, downright dirty, and an all-around showstopper. To perform this piece, ensembles will truly need to pull out all the stops.
