If you’re on the hunt for the most breathtaking and pristine or something more rugged and wild, there are some amazing beaches on Oahu that await you!
Here is a list of gorgeous beaches captured by drone (not in countdown order) explored while visiting Oahu. Some may surprise you and some are iconic places to visit.
- With gorgeous turquoise waters, Hanauma Bay has long been a popular snorkeling destination, to the point that the state has instituted ticketed and timed entry. you’ll likely spot tropical fish and morays, turtles and Hawaiian monk seals.
- Waikīkī Beach is one of the most popular beaches in the world, boasting more than four million visitors every year and breathtaking views of Diamond Head. The Duke Kahanamoku statue welcomes you to Waikīkī, one of the best places in Hawaiʻi to learn how to surf or paddle a canoe thanks to its small but long-lasting wave break. Waikīkī is actually made up of a few beaches, including Fort DeRussy Beach to the west, Waikīkī Beach (fronting the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and Westin Moana Surfrider), Kūhiō Beach (along Kalākaua Avenue) and Queen Surf Beach, home to quieter stretches on the Lēʻahi Head side of Waikīkī.
- Makapuʻu Beach Park is sea cliffs and is very popular with bodyboarders and bodysurfers alike. Around the corner is the Makapuʻu Lighthouse.
- Bellows Beach is located in windward Oahu just outside the town of Waimanalo is a long thick stretch of white sand facing a clear turquoise blue expanse of ocean.
- Lanikai Beach - Nestled in town of Kailua on Oahu’s Windward side, Lanikai Beach is one of Hawaii’s most picturesque and famous beaches.
An offshore reef keeps the water calm year-round, offering excellent swimming conditions from January to December.
- Mākaha Beach has the best surfing on Oʻahu’s west coast and is one of the places where big wave surfing was pioneered. Beware of the sloping sand beachhead that can cause backwash and catch unsuspecting visitors off-guard.
- Kalela Beach is situated nearby to the area of Kehukuuna Point just south of Laie. The water is claim even in the winter and this is why we discovered this gorgeous spot. While most of the nothshore and eastide was not swimmable during a high surf this was just perfect. We usually pass through here just to visit Laie Point, Polynesian Cultural Center or the Laie Hawaii Temple for some photo op and never considered to bask in the sun. One of our discoveries and great boarding place.
- Waimea Bay Beach Park is notorious for producing monstrous winter waves, so it’s one of the first places surfers began to ride big waves in the ’50s. In the summer, the swells subside for great swimming and snorkeling. With full facilities, this is a popular beach for locals and visitors alike.
- Banzai Pipeline is known for powerful waves that break over a sharp reef no more than a few feet from the surface. These massive tubes make this one of the most dangerous surf spots in the world and one of the venues for the Triple Crown of Surfing.
- Kailua Beach - Located approximately one mile up the road from Lanikai Beach, Kailua Beach Park often is cited as one of Hawaii’s best beaches. With nearly three miles of light-colored sand and crystal-clear water, the park is the perfect spot to spend the day. Many enjoy playing in the gentle waves or learning how to windsurf or rent a kayak for a day and venture out to explore small island just off shore.
- Sandy Beach is a popular beach in Oahu for water sports such as surfing and body-boarding because of the massive waves that reach heights of 20-30 feet during the winter months. If you’re not a strong swimmer, make sure you stay ashore.
- Ka'a'awa Beach a small and cute beach on Oahu, which is probably the most beautiful photo spot on the island! Ka’a’awa Beach offers a dreamlike photo backdrop, which seems to have sprung from a paradisiacal postcard. The beach itself is very narrow and offers hardly any space to spread out a towel in the dry, but a side trip to K’a’awa Beach should not be missed during your Oahu trip! Once you see this place with your own eyes, you’ll know why!
