How to Reduce an Overgrown Laurel Hedge video.

Sometimes hedges need to be cut back hard, which is a renovation or reduction, which can feel like a scary thing to do. However, if it's done properly and at the right time, your laurel hedge will come back better than before.

This hedge is the largest Cherry Laurel hedge I manage. I've been looking after it for nearly 15 years. The only reason we had to take so much off the top was to match the hard cut the neighbours had done on the side hedge without the owner's permission. She wasn't happy. As it was just a top reduction, the internal structure is still in place. This means that the recovery period should be quite short.

I would expect this hedge to be in full leaf again next year. Even though most of the top is empty with no leaves, that should start to fill in next spring and could be in full leaf by the Autumn.
