Earlier this month, Wigan Athletic Community Trust supported secondary school students from the Premier League Inspires programme to gain valuable work experience and learn about working at a football club at the Trust’s annual media experience evening.

The students visited The Brick Community Stadium for Wigan Athletic’s fixture against Nottingham Forest U21s and took part in a careers-focused workshop with former Premier League referee Chris Foy, who spoke about his experience as a referee as well as his experiences working in media and his current role with the PGMOL.

After the workshop, the students took part in a mock press conference with Wigan Athletic Women’s Molly Hassall and Wigan Athletic Academy’s Llyton Chapman, who answered questions about their careers and what it means to be a Wigan Athletic player.

The students then took part in another workshop with Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Daniel Newton. This workshop focused on how to write a match report and media careers.
After the workshops, the students headed up to the pressbox to watch Latics take on Nottingham Forest U21s and write their very own match reports and gain experience in what it’s like to work in football media.
