Australian Army Sappers from the 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment and supporting elements forged a contingent alongside engineers from the British Army, New Zealand Army, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force ( JGSDF) and Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) for Exercise Puk Puk at Igam Barracks, Lae, Papua New Guinea. Exercise Puk Puk is an annual engineering activity focused on developing international partnerships, demonstrating combined engineering effects, and delivering meaningful upgrades to defence and community infrastructure. In 2025 the Puk Puk contingent included more than 120 personnel and achieved the most significant engineering works since its establishment in 2002.
