“August is my month. Along with it being my month of birth, it has always been a period of deep reflection and beginning cycle of change, especially over the last six years now. I’ve been working on and off on Philip Glass’s Metamorphosis 1 through 5 and Mad Rush for some time, and I feel it finally taking shape in my interpretation as I rediscover this music more and more as a Tarkovsky-esque mirror into my daily life. As many artists tend to do, I find myself starting projects like this only to leave it on the back-burner for months before coming back to it again, losing the mantra of the work yet again as my energy fluctuates, thus moving on to other projects and “priorities”… but this time it’s August, and there is something about this particular August: the excessive heat, the humidity seeping into every fibre of my being, the seemingly endless fires sweeping the earth and that sense of being on the verge of breaking. All.of.the.time. I feel it, something is coming and the process of creation, going back to the piano and seeing myself change in that way I always do at this instrument, is bringing me to that climactic breaking point, that rebirth that comes from complete damage and destruction. I need to shed this old skin.”

I wrote these thoughts in August 2021. It’s incredible how much has changed and how much has stayed the same. Metamorphosis 1 through 4 have been omnipresent in the soundtrack of these fluctuating times; the persistent mantra of the heart flame, stilling me, but propelling me forever forward, during the past 470 days of slow but consistent unveiling of my truest self. Although these notes in particular belong to an earlier stages of change and nostalgic memories of awakening in me, they are inherent in this continuous present I have embraced. I gathered the moving images during my numerous but brief getaways with ‪@passionepitturamariominari7843‬ in 2021. If my eyes could tell the story of my inner workings during those moments of deep reflection and calm experiencing nature, history, beauty…this is the story they would tell.
