Termites are social insects which live in colonies with two reproductive individuals, king and queen as well as other individuals, workers and soldiers. Termites are most prevalent in the tropics and subtropics and are scarce or absent in the higher latitudes and higher altitudes within their normal latitudinal range of occurrence. They are classified based on their food choice, feeding habits and nesting behaviour.
