Dawngate was a free-to-play MOBA, initially developed by Waystone Games and published by EA, that began development somewhere between 2010 and 2012, with testing for the game beginning in May 2013. In 2014, EA closed its doors on its innovative and groundbreaking PC MOBA game Dawngate. 6 years later, legions of fans are clamoring for the game to make a reappearance as the market and similar games have rocketed in both consumer popularity, esports engagement and cultural status. The game would consist of a 5v5 playstyle where each player would control a 'Shaper' and combine their efforts in order to defeat the opposing team's 'Spirit Guardian'. Each Spirit Guardian would defend itself, though being static and could attack enemy characters or ‘shapers’ and minions on its own, utilizing the power of Cores which could be disabled.

Unlike other games in the genre, Dawngate's shapers were resourceless, allowing them to use abilities at will without cost, creating a far more competitive game experience but also allowing new players to pick up and play any character without confusion as to how they operated.

Similar to other MOBAs, each Shaper would have access to items (which could be purchased with a currency called "vim") as well as Spells that they obtained at the beginning of the game and as the game progressed. The items were unique in that there were 6 base items which signified a particular kind of shaping ability in the lore and gave specific stats based on that ability (such as Power, Life, and Resilience) that could be further built into more powerful versions which had enhanced abilities. These basic items were very simple and would do what they said they would do. Power, for example, would increase the strength of any Shaper's damage output whether it is an ability or a basic attack. Haste would increase movement and attack speed while simultaneously decreasing cooldowns. Armor gives defensive stats that protect from both Physical and Magic damage. Health gives health, with the item tree being diversified enough to switch things up offensively or defensively without losing Vim invested into items you already have.
