About the Chapter -3 Atoms and Molecules

From the ancient time Indian and Greek philosophers used to think that what all the things around us are made up of. Maharishi Kanad and Greek philosopher Democritus and Leucippus gave their thought about the composition of things and gave the words “Parmanu” and “atom” respectively.
Later Lavoisier & Joseph L.Proust studied the chemical compositions and several chemical reactions and they gave the laws of chemical combination , which has two laws- (1) Law of conservation of mass
(2) law of constant or fixed proportion.
John Dalton in 1808 gave a theory to explain the composition of matter –Dalton’s Atomic theory.
In this chapter we will also study about ions , types of ions , atomic mass , molecules of elements and compounds, writing chemical formula , formula of simple compounds, molecular mass and mole concept, formula mass and mole concept in detail.
