The Richmond Line, the Level Crossings, and the Floods

The Richmond Line is a railway line that runs in Sydney’s northwest, as part of the T1 North Shore and Western Line, and the T5 Cumberland Line. The line runs through some of the most undeveloped parts of Sydney. For that precise reason, the line is home to 7 of Sydney’s 9 remaining level crossings; more level crossings than any other Sydney line combined! On top of that, the line has some of the quietest stations in all of Sydney; you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in country NSW. The reason that the line’s area is so undeveloped is tragic; the area lies on a notorious flood plain, meaning it floods very regularly. Substantial development along much of its corridor is yet to occur for this reason, and it may very well never occur.

In this video, I’ll explore the stations of Schofields, Riverstone, Vineyard, Mulgrave, Windsor, Clarendon, East Richmond and Richmond. I’ll explore secrets of every station, Geoff Marshall style! And I’ll even make a few corny jokes along the way :)) Enjoy!!
