Democratic leaders in Congress said they're willing to let the government shut down when funding runs out at the end of the month if Republicans aren't willing to negotiate on federal health care spending.

"We are together in defense of the health care of the American people,” House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries told reporters Thursday.

Democrats are seeking a reversal of Medicaid changes that were part of the GOP “One Big Beautiful Bill” and an extension of Affordable Care Act health insurance subsidies, The Washington Post reported.
