LYRICS:
There was an eon
when domination
meant strength
And compassion,
the reverse
Few thought to question this
Time to evolve
To see we were wrong
This is not what it means
to be strong
In time, humankind awoke
"The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?"
Time to evolve
To see we were wrong
This is not what it means
to be strong
BAND BIO:
Violin fireworks. Lush string textures. Colossal walls of sound.
At once bombastic and eloquent, this Vancouver powerhouse careens through genres, taking listeners on a kaleidoscopic sonic journey.
Fresh out of UBC School of Music and bored with most mainstream musical offerings, composer Mike Bell formed The Living with violinist Elyse Jacobson in 2006. Their goal: to bridge the gap between Western art music and popular styles, mixing traditional rock / post rock instrumentation with classical instruments.
After releasing EPs in 2007 and 2009, migrating to Berlin, Germany and then returning to their hometown of Vancouver, Canada, The Living have reemerged with a burst of creative energy. Bell and Jacobson have hand-picked a group of their favorite Vancouver musicians to create their ideal sound. The Living's new lineup features violin, viola, and cello in addition to electric guitar, keys, bass, drums, and vocals.
Songs on "The Jungle is Dark but Full of Diamonds," The Living's first full-length release, fuse classical chamber music sounds and epic strings with prog rock, indie rock, indie music, post rock, alternative rock, metal, Latin, alt, funk, folk, and splashes of world music and jazz.
This new epic indie progressive rock funk metal Latin gypsy jazz symphonic rock song featuring strings is copyrighted in 2014 / 2015
Alt Indie Music and Prog rock / Progressive rock violins, violas and cellos, oh my!
