STORYLINE:
Tens of thousands of people in Bosnia were left without electricity on Tuesday after heavy snow and winds that also brought traffic chaos in neighboring Croatia and Serbia.

In Slovenia, efforts are expected to continue to locate an injured Hungarian hiker who got lost and has been stranded in the Alps north of the capital Ljubljana since Sunday.

Rescuers reached a female hiker who was with him on Monday and she was transferred to safety.

But rescuers were unable to locate the man and couldn't use a helicopter because of strong winds.

Throughout the region authorities issued travel warnings because of snow drifts that closed down some roads, including sections of motorways in Croatia.

In Bosnia, the state power company described the situation as “extremely hard” in some areas of the country and urged patience and understanding.

Heavy, moist snow collapsed distribution lines which are hard to access due to snow drifts.

Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia limited traffic on affected roads, banning heavy vehicles. Parts of Bosnia faced complete halt of railway traffic.

Regional N1 television reported that some 70 vehicles with children in some of the cars, got stuck in snow in Bosnia overnight
