We have just returned from one of the first Viking ocean cruises of 2021. This luxury cruise line has resumed cruising with its Iceland's Natural Beauty itinerary. With several new health and safety protocols, does Viking still deliver a luxury cruise experience? Well, we share everything from dining, to entertainment, and daily activities with our Viking Sky cruise review.

-----VIKING OCEAN CRUISES REVIEW----
Embarkation for Viking Sky was a long but efficient, multi-step process. The cruise line required individuals to check-in at the Harpa concert hall in Reykjavik before being transported to the cruise ship. During check-in, cruisers had their temperatures check, COVID-19 vaccines verified, and received contact tracers. Disembarkation was more typical, with cruisers meeting at a designated time on the morning of the departure to be escorted to the airport.

Viking Ocean Cruises has a number of health and safety protocols in place now as part of the Viking cruise restart. Among them are mandatory face masks while indoors, daily temperature checks, as well as daily COVID-19 testing on the ship which is analyzed in the onboard PCR lab.

The Viking Sky cruise ship has two pools. The main pool is located on Deck 7 midship. Since this pool is covered, it is always a pool day regardless of the weather outside. Aft on Deck 7 is a small infinity pool, which offers amazing aft views.

While Viking ocean ships don't have sports decks like those found on other mega-ships of today, Deck 9 forward does offer some activities including lawn bowling, shuffle board, and a putting green.

Likewise, there are limited formal activities on Viking Sky. The cruise line provides cruisers with a free tour at each port of call, plus several upgraded excursions. With cruise itineraries that are port intensive, the few daily activities on this luxury cruise line goes unnoticed. With trivia, enrichment talks, game tables, a small museum, and an included thermal suite, there are still ways to relax after a long day ashore exploring the exciting ports of call.

All dining is included on Viking Sky. This includes the main dining room, The Restaurant, as well as two specialty dining venues. We ate at the main dining room on 3 nights of the cruise. For us, the food was the same or slightly better than contemporary cruise lines, with much more personable and attentive service.

The specialty restaurant, Manfredi's, offers rich Italian fare like Chicken Parma and al dente pasta; although, the service was a bit rushed and less attentive. Our favorite specialty restaurant was the Chef's Table, which paired exquisite 5 course meals with an included wine pairing, alongside tailored and friendly service.

Viking Sky's entertainment was predictably lackluster, with 3 production shows that felt dated. . Nightlife included live music in three venues, with the nightclub Torshavn being the "late night spot".

The five bars onboard Viking Sky serve the same menu except Torshavn which does have some signature cocktails. So, choosing a bar has more to do with the atmosphere than the drink selection. Overall, the drinks were well-made at all the bars we visited.

Overall, Viking Ocean Cruises still delivered a luxury cruise given the new protocols and additional safety measures in place.
