According to Hindu mythology, one of the 64th Shaktipithas is believed to be the religious site of Lord Shiva's important Shiva Linga. According to the mythological story, after Mahadev's wife Satyadevi sacrificed her body at this place, Mahadev's jatta (head hair) fell while walking with her body, hence the name of this place is known as Lambhatareshwar Mahadev. Also, in the 104th chapter of Himavatkhand, there is a description of Latarambheshwar Lord Shiva. It is at this place that Lord Shiva taught Tandu Rishi Tandava dance and propagated Tandava dance to the people, so it is famous by both names as Latarambheshwar Mahadev.
