Clearing Ice Dams From Roof

Ice dams can and will damage your roof if they build up enough. The ice builds up on the gutters and then creates water to pool on the roof behind the gutter. The water then gets under the shingles, into the plywood and eventually into your house, walls, and ceiling.

I cleared the snow from the roof and later busted up the ice on the gutters (no shown).

If you can get the snow off the roof edges that will allows the water to flow in or over the gutter and not back up on the roof and get into plywood under the shingles.
