Introduction
Every believer must understand a fundamental truth about human nature: God created us with the capacity for two distinct forms of existence - the flesh and the spirit. This teaching explores the biblical concept of the "old man" and the "new man" that coexist within every believer.
The Old Man: Our Fleshly Nature
What is the Old Man?
The old man represents our original, fallen nature that we inherit at natural birth. This is the flesh - our sinful, corrupt nature that comes from Adam's transgression.
Key Characteristics:

Inherited at birth - We receive this nature from our earthly parents
Corrupt and sinful - Prone to rebellion against God
Self-centered - Seeks its own desires and pleasures
Temporary - Destined for death and decay
Spiritually dead - Separated from God's life

Biblical Foundation

Romans 5:12 - "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned"
Ephesians 2:1-3 - Describes our condition as "dead in transgressions and sins"
Romans 7:18 - "For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature"
