22 - March, 2017 - This video is of Notophthalmus viridescens (Eastern Newt) in amplexus and performing a courtship behavior. The male clamps his rear limbs around the female by her front limbs or slightly forward (around her neck). The male will then use his tail to fan pheromones towards the females nostrils. The male then performs a courtship dance in front of the female. Not shown here but the male would eventually release a sperm packet for the female to pick up with her cloaca.
