"I came to visit this settlement of refugees from Syria and I spent time with some of the refugees. Conditions are difficult, as you all know. What I saw in my tour of the region, really with time passing, with years passing after the beginning of the crisis, refugees are becoming more vulnerable and they need all the support that we can get them. We are very grateful to Lebanon for hosting such a large number of people. This is the country, Lebanon, that hosts per capita the largest number of refugees compared to the local population."

STORYLINE:
Newly elected UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi visited a Syrian refugee camp in Saadnayel village in East Lebanon on Friday to see firsthand the situation of Syrian refugees in the country.
Grandi told reporters after his visit "refugees are becoming more vulnerable and they need all the support that we can get them."
Grandi's visit to Lebanon falls within the framework of a tour of several countries, including Turkey, Jordan and Syria, to evaluate the living conditions of Syrian refugees.
The impact of the Syrian crisis, from the economic and demographic to political instability and security continues to deepen across Lebanon, with more than 1.3 million refugees hosted across the country.
