In today’s episode of Talk Heathen, the awesome team of Sofia Spina and Jamie the Blind Limey tackle the beginning of the universe with why time is not infinite backwards as they walk a caller through not being part of the religion club. Kelley Laughlin joins to top off the show with what evidence will be needed to believe in god.

John in TX claims god exists because time can’t go back infinitely. How do you know time can’t go back forever? Do you have insight into what occurred before time started? Why would this be god? If numbers are abstract, why isn't time also abstract? Why is your evidence more likely to be true than ours? How can we know that time existed before the Big Bang and why would this need god? How do you know that the universe is running down hill and what does that mean? Even if these concepts are true, why do they lead us to god? Why did this god have people write down things that we know are wrong such as the myths written in Genesis? There are many things that point to the universe starting with one point and expanding. Irreversible complexity is a shaky argument because it relies on us not knowing how things work.

Jeff in TX was raised without religion and describes an experience as a kid where all the kids had to line up with either the protestants or Catholics. None of the doctrines make sense and be happy that you are untarnished by this. Sofia mentions being from a family that has hundreds of years of religion and how there can be a lot of anger associated with breaking away from the religion. She mentions how we love that people have been raised without religious trauma. You can still be helpful without having the religious experience because empathy comes into play.

Another one of our amazing hosts, Kelley Laughlin joins the show and talks with Caleb in OH. Caleb asks what evidence it will take for the hosts to believe in god. Kelley mentions that we take empirical evidence. Jaime asks how we would know it was god it his eyes were healed today. Sofia says that if we were to find and substantiate the texts of the Bible were to be close to the truth, it would get her to think there was more to it. Caleb, what do you think of that?
