This week on The Horti-Culturalists we get COVERED in the pollen of another great winter flowering shrub Garrya elliptica or the silk tassel bush. Fabulous catkins which last well as a cut flower, this is a tough and versatile shrub that also espaliers well for a smaller or courtyard garden. Sun loving, shade tolerant, drought tolerant, this Californian native fell out of fashion but is having it's moment in the sun, or shade, again! Stephen mentions these Garrya's:
