Abhyuthan - The Rising | A Dance Drama by CVVians

In times of uncertainty, we often find ourselves searching for guidance and wisdom. This dance drama today explores how ancient tales and the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita can serve as beacons of light, illuminating our path through life's challenges.

The story begins with a protagonist who, like many of us, feels overwhelmed by the complexitiesof modern life. As she yearns for the simplicity of childhood, an unexpected guide appears - a Kuravatti, a wandering fortune-teller from Tamil Nadu. But this Kuravatti is no ordinary character; she is, in fact, a manifestation of the protagonist's inner wisdom, a representation of the childhood stories and teachings she has internalized over the years. In Tamil culture, the Kuravatti is known for her vibrant presence and deep connection to folk wisdom. These gypsy women are revered for their ability to bridge the gap between the mundane and the mystical. Our Kuravatti, as an aspect of the protagonist's inner self, symbolizes the dormant knowledge and strength that lie within each of us, waiting to be awakened. Through her colorful narration and lively dance, the Kuravatti will weave together three tales from the Panchatantra, one of the oldest collections of Indian fables. Dating back to around 200 BCE, these stories were originally created to impart practical wisdom to young princes. Today, they continue to offer profound insights into human nature and the art of living, transcending
time and culture.

As the drama unfolds, we'll witness how these seemingly simple stories - of a monkey and a crocodile, two goats on a bridge, and a flock of doves outwitting a hunter - contain universal truths that resonate with our modern dilemmas. The Kuravatti's interpretation of these tales, combined with the eternal wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, will guide our protagonist towards recognizing and harnessing her inner strength and resilience. Join us on this enchanting journey as we rediscover the power of ancient wisdom to transform our lives, reminding us that the key to navigating uncertainty lies within ourselves - in the stories we've internalized, the lessons we've learned, and the strength we've always possessed.
