DIY Tech Tip: How to Install RGB Backlight Behind Truck Grille (Example on 2021 Chevy Silverado HD)

In this DIY tech tip video, we're showing how we installed some RGB backlighting behind the grille and within the hood scoop on a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD. For this install, we used an RGB strip light and wrapped the strip continuously around the back of the grille. We took the connection for the RGB strip and followed the OEM connection for the camera. We did have to file a few pieces down behind the grille in order for the strip to fit perfectly. We also used the 3m adhesion promoter to ensure a strong grip. We used a similar method with a 16" RGB strip light for underneath the fenders.

In the second part of the video, we show you how to remove the nostril or hood scoop on this truck and how we installed another RGB strip light in that location. First, you will have to remove four bolts and some snap pins in order to take out the scoop. Remember to use caution when removing the pins. We recommend using a plastic pry tool to carefully remove them and prevent snapping them. We ran a 17" RGB strip light along the top of the scoop and secured it using 3m tape and the adhesion promoter. We drilled a tiny hole to run the wiring and sealed it with RTV silicone for waterproofing.
