To be a notary in California, here is a summary of the following requirements
This will first require the completion of a six-hour course through a list of approved vendors.

After that the following steps need to be done:
6-hour home study course
Pass a written exam with test results score of 75 proving your personal knowledge

Get The California Notary Handbook as a study guide
Complete the notary application
Submit fingerprints via Live Scan
Pass a background check by FBI and DOJ
Pay $40 fee
File Oath of Office with Bond within 30 days

Get your notary commission as we outline in the steps above. We highly recommend avoiding using the National Notary Association (NNA) for applying for insurance or bonding as the prices are unreasonably high and they have POOR customer service.
