Описание к видео Wat Rajadhiwas Wiharn - The Temple of the Kings - With Italian Frescos - Bangkok Thailand 2024

Wat Rajadhiwas Wiharn located in Bangkok’s Dusit district.

Wat Rajadhiwas Wiharn, a second class royal monastery in the Ratchaworawihan
Classification, was originally known as Wat Samorai. This temple is assumed to have been established during the Ayutthaya Period.

King Buddhayodfachulalok the Great (Rama I) had it renovated and assigned his son, Somdet Phra chao Lukya Thoe Chaofa Kromma Luang Itsarasunthon (later to be King Rama II) in this temple when the prince was ordained as a buddhist monk. In the reign of King Nangklao Chao Yu Hua (Rama III) , the temple served as the residence of Phra Vajirayanabhikku (later, King Mongkut or King Rama IV) before he moved to Wat Bowonni Wet vihara.

After his accession to the throne, King Mongkut launched major renovations at Wat Samorai. The Ordination Hall, the principle Chedi, the Teaching Hall, the monks' residences, the belfry and a bridge were repaired and a crematorium,. together with a pavilion, were built at the front of the temple. The King had the temple renamed Wat Rajadhiwas Wiharn, meaning a temple which is resided in by a king.

The former ordination hall or phra-ubosot was in ruin and demolished for a complete restoration. The King Rama V reconstructed a new Uposatha Hall in the same place during 2450 B.E. to 2454 B.E of the Buddhist calendar. The hall was built with stucco art of the Khmer style and it was designed by HRH Prince Narissara Nuvadtivong.

It is held as one of the most beautiful building in Thailand. The mural paintings are true works of art with a style you won’t see anywhere else in Thailand.

There are many other things to see at the temple but the mural paintings are the most impressive thing. They are worth a special trip to see.
