The Petrified Forest in Thrace is close to Lefkimi village, 50 km from Alexandroupoli. Created by volcanic activity 25 million years ago with the external morphological features of the trees in excellent condition. It is one of the best preserved petrified forests of Europe and the oldest in Greece. Lefkimi is a quaint, beautiful little village at the southern edge of the Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli National Park.
