Burnley Film Makers present their annual newsreel for 2018. This film features;
The Lantern Squad and the Light Parade through Burnley (in Dec 2017). Burnley College held a fashion show for the mayor’s appeal (Dec 2017). The ‘Beast from the East’ strikes Lancashire with blizzards and heavy snow in places. Colne’s Easter festival arrives with events Easter eggs and Morris dancers. (April 2018.). A Cars and Coffee event is held at Turf Moor. The Centenary of the formation of the RAF is celebrated with a parade (held April 8th) and a march through town with a service at St. Peter’s Church in Burnley. Commonwealth Day in Nelson. Higham Craft Fair in May. The Star Wars family Fun day at Turf Moor. Cliviger Duck Race. May Day bank Holiday celebrations take place in Towneley with Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell and Burnley MP Julie Cooper attending.

In May 2018, Charles Briggs becomes Mayor of Burnley and James Starkie becomes the mayor of Pendle. Burnley’s new Primark store opens its doors. Pendle Powerfest takes place. In Burnley the Princess Royal pub is re-branded and named the Royal Dyche after Burnley’s manager Sean Dyche manages to steer the club into Europe. Burnley fan Rocky Mills performing the honours. The Band In the Park concert takes place. On the 27th May the Mayoral Sunday event takes places at St. Johns church in Higham. At Pendleside Hospice, the BBC’s Tony Livesey opens a new facility for families. On 16th June Burnley College hosts a science festival. The new extension to Cliviger Church is formally opened by Burnley Mayor Charles Briggs.

Burnley in Bloom takes place with a garden party and Tai Chi taking place in the market square. On the 20th August Burnley football legend Jimmy McIlroy passed away. Jimmy’s funeral was held on August 31st and Burnley supporters line Harry Potts Way to show their respects to a local hero. Finally the newsreel ends with the opening on the 6th of October of the new £2.4 million Pendle footpath with the mayors of Pendle and Ribble Valley.
