I was learning GD&T this afternoon, and let me share why I think it’s necessary, even though I don’t consider myself an engineer.

We directly interact with engineer customers and often need to communicate using a lot of jargon, not only in the field of magnetics but also frequently in mechanical engineering.

This is especially true when dealing with precision magnetic systems. For this reason, I need to deepen my mechanical knowledge, such as GD&T, to become a more effective bridge between the engineers on the customer’s R&D team and our manufacturing and quality inspection teams in China.

We’ve been seeing many advanced magnet applications in motion control that require precision in both magnetic fields and geometric tolerancing within their magnet systems. The ability to effectively communicate, control, and inspect these precision-related requirements cannot be ignored.
