Here is of my full playthrough of Super Punch Out done, as always using original hardware on a Super Nintendo with no cheats or save states!

-Graphical improvements don't necessarily make a better game, but combine that with perfect controls, fun mechanics, charming character design and well balanced challenge and well, it's hard to argue this doesnt feel like the perfect Punch Out!

That's not to say the original isn't boarding on a perfect game. Mike Tyson's Punch Out (or Mr Dream's) is unquestionably one the of NES's most fondly remembered titles and there's little there to find fault with, however like nearly all NES classic franchises, the step up to 16-bit proves the perfect balance of upgrade.

Gameplay for dodging and punching remain the same as before but new mechanics for Super Punches achieved via a power bar filled after landing successive hits without takeing damage, proves a far more rewarding way to play than the old counter punch technique. It's also just way more satisfying landing punches in general.

The rolecall of fighters is equally lovable, (and equally racially questionable) with each circuit boasting progressively more bizzare characters, Mad Clown anyone?

Having spent most of my life thinking Macho Man was the final encounter, I was amazed to learn that 3 perfect circuits (ie 4 wins no losses) unlocks a hidden Special circuit. Make no mistake, the fights here, bar Narcis Prince, are brutal! As always tho, patterns do eventually reveal themselves, all that's needed is alot of practice!

A great game I thoroughly enjoyed.
