After more than ten months of tension triggered by a cross-border drone incident involving Mali, the two neighbors are not only exchanging ambassadors but have now held a high-level presidential summit in Algiers. 🕊️ Algeria-Niger Reconciliation
This weekend, Nigerien President Gen. Abdourahamane Tiani arrived in Algiers for an official working visit, where he was received by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune . The visit included a full honor guard and high-level talks with Algeria's top officials, including the Army Chief of Staff and the Energy Minister . This comes just days after Algeria ordered its ambassador to return to Niamey, reciprocating Niger's decision to reinstate its own envoy .

🛢️ Strategic Projects Back on Track
Why the sudden urgency to mend fences? Analysts point to massive joint economic interests. The two countries are keen to revive strategic projects, including:

· The Trans-Saharan Highway .
· The Kafra Oil Block: An Algerian delegation led by Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab visited Niamey in January to review projects here, with reserves estimated at over 260 million barrels .
· The Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline: A mega-project designed to transport 30 billion cubic meters of Nigerian natural gas to Europe via Niger and Algeria .
