Hiking Hightop Mountain in Shenandoah National Park | A pretty autumn hike

Hightop Mountain is the highest peak in the South District of Shenandoah National Park. Both the Park Service and AllTrails call this a 3 mile (4.8 km) round-trip hike (in-and-out) with about 1000ft (305m) of elevation gain. This trail offers spectacular views to the east at the viewpoint/turn-around and is considered "moderate". There is an optional short spur to the actual summit of Hightop. The trail begins at the Hightop Mountain Parking Area.

Shenandoah National Park is a fee area. As of 2022 it is $30 per passenger vehicle (valid for 7 days), $25 for motorcycle, or $15 for foot/bicycle (not to exceed $30 for a family). Interagency pass holders are admitted at no charge. Current Fee info: https://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisi...
