Описание к видео Wildlife Conservation Now

This event took place on 2 May 2023. The information below is correct as of the publication date.

A special discussion with some of the most important wildlife and conservation organisations in the UK.

Craig Bennett, chief executive of The Wildlife Trusts, is joined by Beccy Speight, Chief Executive of the RSPB and Andrew Terry Director of Conservation at ZSL in conversation with Justin Rowlatt, the BBC’s Climate Editor.

This event focuses on the past, present and vital future of wildlife conservation, in Britain and around the world. Despite the difficult challenges of species decline, habitat loss and climate change, there is also amazing work in progress and some success stories to build from.

The event also marks the imminent coronation of King Charles III, who has been described as ‘one of the great conservationists of our time’, and even in a constitutional monarchy he has always been able to highlight the plight of our environment. Natural England chair Tony Juniper, who collaborated with the former Prince of Wales on his book Harmony argues that Charles ‘has touched on all the most important environmental issues at one point or another: disappearing wildlife, pollution, food and water security, climate change, rainforests, the circular economy, sustainability and plastic waste in our oceans, as well as organic agriculture.’ Following on from his father’s noted Presidency of the WWF, Charles has been chair, patron or supporter of numerous charities and organisations that focus on the importance of nature.

This event accompanies The British Library’s exhibition Animals: Art, Science and Sound.
