Salamat Bibi Story is very thrilling and painful. She left her village Kauni, District Sri Muktsar Sahib in 1947 at time of India Pakistan partition in sorrowful conditions. Most of her family members lost when they were attacked by the mob. A man namely Sajan Singh and his wife Kaur helped the grieved families at that bad time. They provided them shelter and later on, food in their hideouts.
Kauni is a village in the Sri Muktsar Sahib district of Punjab, India. It is one of the largest villages of Punjab.

As of 2011 census, the village has the total population of 12102 with 6756 males and 5346 females thus males constitute 56% and females 44% of population with the sex ratio of 861 females per thousand males.

Kauni village is located in Gidderbaha Tehsil of Muktsar district in Punjab, India. It is situated 28km away from sub-district headquarter Gidderbaha and 15km away from district headquarter Muktsar. Bhatinda City is 40 Km away and Faridkot City is 36Km. As per 2009 stats, Kauni village is also a gram panchayat.

There are some influential families from this village who have studied at The Doon School (Dehradun).

Former Chief Minister of Punjab Prakash Singh Badal started his political career in 1957 from Gidderbaha Constituency with the help of some personalities who are from this village.

Educational opportunities are really good in this village. It has Punjab University (Chandigarh) Rural Centre, Punjab Agriculture University Model High School, DRS Convent School, and Government High School along with one stadium, two grounds, one each in University center and PAU school.

This village has its own Hi-Tech Gym funded by the Club of Kauni. It has an electricity grid which supplies electricity to other nearby villages.
