Thanks to a viewer of this channel, a gift from across the pond, and my already kindling love of history, coinage, numismatics, precious metals as well as the strange allure of the Pound Sterling and its 240 Pence, I have a new passion in collecting the foreign coins of Pre-1920 Great Britain. I had owned Sovereigns in the past. However the very names intrigue me! Crowns, half crowns, Florins, Shillings, Sixpence, Groats, Threepence, Tuppence, Farthings....... The crisp images, the coats of arms, the purer sterling silver of 92.5% pure (compared to our US 90%). The ideas of hard working folks across the pond, working in factories, coal mines, fighting WWI, WWII, scraping by in life and saving in these coins intrigues me. Who held them? What did this coin buy? Where was it kept? Where has it been? How is it here now with me? My 1819 Crown baffles me. How did it come to me? Enjoy this video.
