With Telangana set to complete 10 years of its carving out of erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh on June 2, 2014, the Congress government is planning grand celebrations.

The 10th anniversary celebrations began last year by the BRS government headed by K. Chandrashekar Rao. His hunger strike a decade ago gave boost to the separate statehood demand and the agitation forced the then UPA government to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.

While Telangana celebrates its formation day every year, this year’s celebration is not special just because it is the 10th year. The Congress government is planning to introduce a new emblem, a State song, and modify the Telangana Talli statue., after taking the legislature’s approval.

Why are these changes being brought in? What is the reaction of Opposition parties? Has the issues arising out of bifurcation resolved in these ten years?

Watch this space as The Hindu’s Telangana Bureau discuss the progress, issues, and changes India’s newest state has seen in a decade of its existence.
