The Jordan River Utah temple is the fourth largest but second-largest in Utah and has 148,236 square feet, six ordinance rooms, and sixteen sealing rooms. The Jordan River Temple groundbreaking took place on September 28, 1981. The dedication of the Jordan LDS Temple took place on November 16-20, 1981, by Marion G. Romney. The temple also has the largest capacity, with each ordinance room accommodating 125 people. The Jordan Temple site is 15 acres. The Jordan River Temple's finished exterior has Cast stone with white marble chips. Although the tower appears to be of the same material, it contains fiberglass in a product called cemlite to reduce weight. The temple has a single attached central spire with an angel Moroni statueUnlike many temples, which are built primarily with tithing funds, the Jordan River Temple was given to the church, and all of its construction was paid for by members in the 134 stakes within the temple district.
