Описание к видео 3 Ways to Attach HDPE for Table Tops and Shelves

High Density PolyEthylene (HDPE) plastic is our first material of choice for table tops, shelves, cart surfaces and platforms. HDPE is one of the most versatile plastics in the world, offering a wide variety of benefits:
*Long-lasting and durable
*Low maintenance
*FDA approved for use in the food processing industry
*Moisture, stain, odor and corrosion resistant

It comes in a variety of thicknesses, with the most common being 0.25", 0.5" and 0.75" thick. It also is available in a few different colors, with the most common being natural white, gray and black. HDPE is made in large sheets (similar to plywood) with most common dimensions being 48" x 96" (4' x 8') and 60" x 120" (5' x 10') sheets. Panels can be cut to specific dimensions and shipped directly to make assembly of kits easy.

Attaching HDPE to workstations, table tops, shelves, and carts can be accomplished using three (3) different methods, with the following benefits of each method:
1. Bolt-through method: Easiest method, holds panels secure. Bolt head on top of panel, potentially creating catch points or unlevel work surface. Visually is less appealing.
2. "No see" threaded metal inserts: Holes are drilled from underside of panel. Holes do not penetrate though HDPE surface. Threaded inserts are inserted underneath panel and bolted. Creates smooth work surface. Visually appealing and panel is well secured to frame. NOTE: Can only be used with 0.5" and 0.75" thick HDPE Panels.
3. Double-sided tape method: Easiest, fastest method. Run tape along supports, cut, remove tape, position panel and push down to adhere tape. Visually appealing, however, panel may move at a later point in time as tape adhesion decreases over time.

Details for each method are below.

1. Bolt-through method: Build frame with self-squaring materials and support for HDPE panel. Place HDPE Panel on top of frame. Clamp or hold panel in correct position to keep it from moving. Use small drill or right-angle drill chuck adapter with 5/16", 11/32" or 21/64" (preferred) bit to drill holes through HDPE from the underside of the frame, typically through the corners of the frame. Keeping hands and fingers out of the way, drill one hole, then place 5/16" bolt into hole and fasten with 5/16" hex nut or 5/16" nylon hex nut. This keeps the panel securely in place as additional holes are drilled. Note, the length of the 5/16" bolt will depend on the thickness of the HDPE panel and the number of tubes beneath the panel:
*0.25" HDPE panel thickness with (1) 1"x1" tube underneath, use 5/16" x 1.75" hex cap bolts.
*0.25" HDPE panel thickness with (2) 1"x1" tube underneath, use 5/16" x 2.75" hex cap bolts.
*0.5" HDPE panel thickness with (1) 1"x1" tube underneath, use 5/16" x 2.25" hex cap bolts.
*0.5" HDPE panel thickness with (2) 1"x1" tube underneath, use 5/16" x 3.5" hex cap bolts.
*0.75" HDPE panel thickness with (1) 1"x1" tube underneath, use 5/16" x 2.25" hex cap bolts.
*0.75" HDPE panel thickness with (2) 1"x1" tube underneath, use 5/16" x 3.5" hex cap bolts.

Make additional holes in the three remaining corners and fasten. If needed, two additional holes can be made near the center of the panel.

2. Threaded Insert method: Use 10mm threaded metal inserts and 0.25" bolts: Secure HDPE panel to frame to keep it from moving. Mark center of holes using tap, drill bit or thin marker. Remove HDPE panel from frame. Drill holes using 5/16", 11/32" or 21/64" (preferred) drill bit, from underside of panel, or structure is flipped upside down (as shown in video). NOTE: Holes do not penetrate through HDPE surface. Carefully drill holes approximately 0.4" deep into underside of panel. Use 6mm hex allen wrench (by hand), or use equivalent 6mm hex adapter in drill to fasten 10mm inserts into holes. Flip panel over and attach panel using 1.5" x 0.25"-20 hex bolts, 0.25" or 5/16" split lock washer and 0.25" hex nut for 1"x1" square tube, or 2.5" x 0.25"-20 hex bolts with 0.25" or 5/16" split lock washer and 0.25" hex nut for (2) 1"x1" square tubes.

3. Double-sided tape method: We use 1" wide TESA tape for many applications. Run double-sided tape along support tubes, cut, remove tape backers, position panel and push down to adhere tape. Simple, fast method; however, panel may move or become unsecured at a later point in time as tape adhesion decreases over time.
