After the Diet of Worms in 1521, Martin Luther vanished under the protection of Frederick the Wise, living in disguise as Junker Jörg at Wartburg Castle, where he translated the New Testament into German and launched a publishing revolution. Meanwhile, Andreas Karlstadt, the Zwickau Prophets, and radical reformers pushed Wittenberg into chaos until Luther returned to deliver the Invocavit Sermons. His marriage to Katharina von Bora shocked Europe, but it was the German Peasants’ War of 1524–1525, led by Thomas Müntzer and fueled by the Twelve Articles, that forced Luther into his most controversial decision—calling on princes and Emperor Charles V to crush the revolt. From secret identities to mass Bible translation, from religious reform to bloody social upheaval, this is the turning point of the Protestant Reformation.
