CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield on Thursday during a hearing before the House Appropriations Committee urged people who had been protesting across the country for more than a week in response to the death of George Floyd to get tested for COVID-19, especially those in metropolitan areas that haven't controlled the outbreak to the extent needed, like Minneapolis.

He said the protests have a potential to be a "seeding event," and said people who were at any of the demonstrations should consider getting tested in "three, five, seven days."

Redfield also spoke about concerns of future health problems among cancer patients as well as children due to delayed cancer screenings and missed vaccinations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saying they need to find a balance to bring not only the economy back but the health system as well.
