About the piece: Strings utilize Bartók pizzicato to simulate ticking clocks. The melody has a continuous flow with a repeating rhythmic pattern that you could get lost in. Time dilates and returns throughout the piece. Harpsichord, Harp and Glockenspiel each have a turn at a rhythmic pattern that gets offset, giving the illusion of disjointed time.
