Last week on Love it Film, we sat down with Cassidy Freeman, best known for playing Tess Mercer on Smallville. She spoke with Jamie about what it was like acting opposite Tom Welling, and how naturally he embodied Clark Kent on set.

Cassidy reflects on Tom’s calm, grounded presence as the lead, how the tone of the entire set flowed from him, and why she secretly enjoyed seeing him pushed out of his comfort zone when playing a darker version of Clark. She also talks about reuniting years later to work together again on their new film Chasing Summer, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on 26 January 2026, and how fun it was stepping back on set with him after so much time.
