Tensions flared in Krishnai on Sunday, September 7 as the Goalpara District Student Mukti Sangram Samiti, along with its Krishnai regional unit, staged a strong protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).



The protestors set ablaze an effigy of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, while shouting slogans such as “Himanta Biswa Sarma Murdabaad,” “Amit Shah Murdabaad,” “Narendra Modi Murdabaad,” and “No to CAA.” The demonstration reverberated with sharp criticism of the BJP-led government both at the Centre and in the state.
