The Andhra Pradesh High Court has expressed strong concern over the declining standards of language and political discourse in the state. The court’s sharp remarks, made in the context of controversial statements by YSRCP leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu, have sparked widespread discussion across the state. Emphasizing that public representatives must maintain dignity in their speech, the High Court warned that failure to exercise restraint could lead to serious consequences. These observations were made while hearing a petition filed by Ambati Rambabu’s wife, Vijayalakshmi, seeking police protection for her family. The court stressed that political leaders must be extremely cautious in their public statements and avoid language that demeans or insults others. The controversy stems from an incident on January 31, 2026, in Gorantla, Guntur, during a dispute over the removal of a flex banner. During this incident, Ambati Rambabu allegedly used highly offensive and abusive language against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, including derogatory remarks targeting the Chief Minister’s family. The comments triggered widespread outrage, following which TDP workers allegedly attacked Ambati Rambabu’s residence and office in Guntur, vandalizing property, setting vehicles on fire, and creating a tense atmosphere. Citing threats to her family’s safety after these incidents, Vijayalakshmi approached the High Court seeking urgent protection. During the hearing, the court strongly criticized the language used by Ambati Rambabu, questioning how leaders who engage in abusive speech can simultaneously seek protection.Following the incidents, three cases were registered against Ambati Rambabu for making obscene remarks against the Chief Minister and for obstructing police duties. He was arrested, produced before the court, and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. He has been shifted to Rajahmundry Central Jail. The government informed the court that police protection involving 15 personnel had already been provided to the Ambati family.
